Professor Joseph S. Freedman has worked in over 200 libraries and archives in Europe and the United States in preparation of this series. During this period he published a number of books and articles on the subject of philosophy and the liberal arts, including: European academic philosophy in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries: the life, significance and philosophy of Clemens Timpler (1563/4-1624), 2 vols. (Hildesheim: Olms, 1988) and Philosophy and the arts in Central Europe, 1500-1700: teaching and texts at schools and universities (Aldershot; Brookfield, Vt.: Ashgate/Variorum, c1999). His publications cover most of the genres of writing and subject matter that form the basis of this Philosophy and Liberal Arts series; many of the writings discussed in his publications are reproduced as part of the series. |
