Alvan Bregman is Rare Book Collections Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received his Ph.D. in English (Renaissance literature) and his MLS from the University of Toronto, where he was previously assistant Vice-Provost, Arts and Science. He is co-compiler, with William W. Barker, of a descriptive checklist of editions of ”Erasmus in Canadian Libraries” (Erasmus in English, Vol. 14 (1985-6): 10-20). Dr. Bregman's current research is in the
area of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century English manuscripts and publishing history.
